I'm so proud of the work that the Prince George delegation did last year to bring a motion to add a seat on our provincial executive for a queer member. I am so proud when the AGM passed that motion with a strong majority. This year, I’m so, so proud that Chirs Perrier-Evely is running to fill that seat and by a voice for queer members in a climate of ever increasing homophobia and transphobia.
Chris possesses an exceptional level of approachability. In a fast-paced and often demanding environment, they manage to maintain an open and welcoming demeanor that welcomes members in their hardest moments. One of Chris's standout qualities is their deep sense of compassion. From the classroom to the union office, they have shown genuine empathy towards colleagues and members, fostering a workplace environment that prioritizes well-being and inclusivity. This compassionate approach paired with their commitment to amplifying the excluded voices in our union works to build bridges with members who often see themselves as excluded from the BCTF.
Chris consistently demonstrates a commitment to centering members' voices. In decision-making processes, they actively seek and consider input from members at all levels. This inclusive approach not only empowers members but also results in well-informed and effective strategies and structures. By ensuring that every voice is heard and valued, Chris builds BCTF structures that allow members to feel a sense of ownership and pride in their union and ultimately democratizes our decisions making bodies and processes. They have actively worked towards creating a more inclusive and transparent system, where information is shared openly, and decision-making is distributed across the membership.
